About Katy.
Hey!
My name is Katy Hayward, & I am an artist / tattoo artist. I work solo from my humble little studio, based on the magical Tutukaka Coast in Aotearoa/ New Zealand.
I feel very lucky to be working my dream job. Art has always been my driving passion in life, right from a wee little tadpole, and tattooing has been a wonderful addition to my art journey as it really helps me with staying fresh (avoiding the artist block), as people bring in their super cool ideas for their custom tattoo design and I get to try and interpret them in my drawing style.
I feel very blessed to have always been supported and encouraged in my art career from the people I love, & to now have support from the wonderful people I get to meet through tattooing is such a bonus!
I have lived in a few different places around Aotearoa in my life so far. Kaikohe, Ngunguru (Tutukaka Coast), Whakatane, Wellington & now I am solidly based back on the Tutukaka Coast with my beautiful little family!
We were lucky enough to buy our own 10.5acre block, and our focus has been trying to plant it out with NZ native tall trees and reveg, to help encourage the bird life returning. We have planted over 6000 trees now that are doing very well thankfully! We also do a bit of trapping which has been proving quite successful since we started! So far we have some kereru (wood pigeon), kōtare (kingfisher), pīhoihoi (pipit), tauhou (waxeye), pīwakawaka (fantail), warou (welcome swallow), kārearea (nz falcon) & riroriro (grey warbler) that have been visiting quite regularly.
My husband, Wade, & I share a deep respect for our planet and are always looking for ways to reduce waste in our day to day life, this trickles down to how I run things in the tattoo studio & also the art prints & other merch I sell
