Below Katy has answered some frequently asked questions:

How do I make a booking? Please email your ideas on or just after the 25th of September 2023 through to - katyhtattoorequest@gmail.com - Below is a list of info that Katy will need to know from you before we start the booking process. Please be as informative as possible with your first email enquiry to avoid delays in replies from Katy, as she gets many requests!

How do we move forward with booking a date? Once you have sent through all of the information required, Katy will get back to you with 10 working days to let you know if she is happy to do this tattoo with you or whether she thinks there might be a another tattoo artist that has a style more suited to what you are after. Katy will send you out her available tattoo appointment dates for the upcoming months. (Dates will be between January through to July 2024 this time around.) When you both have confirmed a date, she will send you through the deposit info to secure the booking plus our aftercare instructions & heaps of other tips and tricks to do with making the tattoo appointment easier!

Does Katy have a waitlist? Katy does not have a current waitlist, she is considering doing this in future when her daughter gets a bit older and she has more time to put into the admin side of the job, however at the present moment her booking system works best.

What are Katy's rates? (From 2024) Katy charges by the hour at $290 per hour. She also has a day rate option $1500, this consists of being tattooed from 10.30am to 5.30pm, if your tattoo took less time then the initial day rate quote then you would be charged via her hourly rate. She takes $290 deposits via internet banking and this comes off the price of the tattoo on the day.

When do I get to see the design? You won't see the design Katy has drawn up for you until the day of the tattoo appointment. So it is important to be specific with your ideas and Katy will work very hard to capture the special essence of your vision. In saying this, please don't hesitate to let her know on the day if there are any changes you would like her to make to the design, its no problem at all and she half expects it :>

What sized piece can Katy complete in a day session? It can be dependant on where the tattoo is on the body and what subject matter is in the design, but generally Katy can complete a tattoo in a day session that is roughly an open hands size or more. It’s hard to know until she has understood your specific ideas :)

Repeat tattoo sessions / Touch up appointments? It is important to know that not everyone's skin reacts the same when getting a tattoo, no matter what the style e.g bold & colourful or fine lined / delicate, sometimes we need a repeat session to get it looking perfect. Katy offers repeat sessions at a lower rate for $100 per hour to cover costs of set-up and a bit of her time. Send Katy a photo of your tattoo so she can give you a rough quote.

What are Katy's favourite things to tattoo? Anything nature inspired, but don't be afraid to ask if your idea is something she is up for!

Does Katy do colour tattoos? Katy has discontinued doing colour in her tattoo work but will happily add white highlights.

Does Katy tattoo over scar tissue? Katy is more than happy to tattoo over scar tissue, but prefers for it to be at least 2 years old minimum.

Will Katy tattoo me if I am pregnant or breastfeeding? Katy will not knowingly tattoo a pregnant lassy out of an abundance of caution. It is important to understand the immense change that your body is going through during pregnancy and there is no need to put it under any more stress than this! Katy also recommends you wait until your baby is 9 to 12 months old and not wholly dependent on breast milk before you get a new tattoo.

Does Katy do cover-up tattoos? Katy has stopped taking on cover-up tattoos due to high demand! She can work around stuff but does find it tricky to incorporate a tattoo that is a completely different style to hers into a design (aka smack bang in the middle.) Always happy to add to a 'tough sticker' collection though!

Can I bring a friend? Yes you most certainly can, as long as they are respectful of the studio and of Katy working her magic. Katy highly recommends that the friend brings something to entertain themselves quietly with also, e.g a book or a laptop etc. They are more than welcome to use power points for charging, we don't have available wifi onsite so pre-downloading things is a must.

Whereabouts is the studio? We are based on the Tutukaka Coast at 539 Matapouri Road. Cute navy blue place on the corner :)

Can we stop in to check out the studio on our way to the beach? We are a private, appointment only studio, so please don't pop in for a visit unless you have made an appointment.
